Booked yourself in for some field related fun this summer? I have and I’m feeling slightly anxious about spending three nights being so close to nature for the first time in YEARS! Mass migration to East Anglia with 20 of my nearest and dearest will take place in a couple of weeks and I’m already building the perfect Beauty Festival Essentials kit.
Read on for the dirty deets.
Although it’s tempting to pack the kitchen sink and then some, you really only need a brush/comb, plenty of hair ties, a dry shampoo and 1 styling product.
The beauty of festival hair is that you can embrace you hairs natural state with a helping hand from a great texturing product.
The new Surf Infusion Spray by Bumble & bumble is a sexy upgrade to the brands original Surf Spray which left my hair feeling a tad too dry. With a split formula of sea salt water and a light oil this beaut enhances natural waves or sexes up a 2 day old blow dry. Rawk n rowwl.
Blitz the grease
I know some gals swear by it but I hold my hands up – I am not a dry shampoo type of girl. I make an exception for festivals when hair washing facilities are scarce. In my kit is the most hardcore and original of them all; Batiste Dry Shampoo mini (only £1.50) with a tropical scent because F**k it I’m only in a field once a year.
The Hair Necessities
This is the one product I use every single day of my life and living in a tent for the weekend is no exception. My Travel Tangle Teezer comes everywhere with me and I have this cute Lulu Guinness travel size one which is perfect.
Abandoning your regular skin routine when going camping is to be expected, but to abandon it altogether is CRIMINAL! I’ve selected hardworking, multi-purpose products perfect for a festival.
Thou shalt remove your makeup no matter how intoxicated
I shudder at the thought of relying on face wipes to remove makeup and cleanse my face but there is no time for being precious when you are busy being at one with nature and…booze. This year I’m keeping it Simple with these wipes.
24 Hour Hydration
Nobody wants 7-cider a day looking skin, so a 24-hour a day moisturiser is a MUST. My fav 24 hour long lasting moisturiser is Nuxe’s Creme Fraiche de Beauty 24 hour face cream. Absorbs fast, smells deliciously floral and sits nicely under makeup.
A serum is the backbone of every good complexion and my favourite Codage No.1 Hydration Intense is what makes the difference between a good and bad skin day. Without this my other products don’t stand a chance. This baby comes in miniature as well.
Multi-purpose products are great for space saving in a festival kit bag. I’m reaching for Radical’s Skin Perfecting Screen with SPF 30. This non clogging, non chemical spf has the added bonus of illuminator (actual diamond dust) to fake a fresh face.
I am also loving SkinCeuticals Mineral Eye UV Defense for added protection to the eye area. My eyes are a constant worry for me these days and I protect the delicate skin daily. This high quality, stay in place eye protector evens out dark circles and skin tone also.
I’ll be packing the following makeup bits to achieve a bright and glowing complexion, but don’t forget Festivals are an awesome time to experiment with that electric blue mascara or gold liquid liner that’s been rolling around in your bottom drawer for months.
The chances of being arsed to put a base on is slim, but the most festival friendly foundation in my collection would be CT’s Light Wonder Foundation. Settling somewhere between foundation and tinted moisturiser this formulation does something magical to the face.
Benefit from this
Bene-babes will know that Benefit products are made for festivals, that’s why I have 3 in my line up.
First up is Fake Up Concealer – a high coverage concealer wrapped in an ultra hydrating crease control balm, which helps hydrate under eye bags and cover at the same time.
Leave the eyebrow powder at home ladies, a festival is no place for perfectly manicured brows. Instead embrace the bushiness and opt for a speedy styling solution like Benefit Speedbrow Gel to style and shape with lasting hold.
They’re Real Mini Mascara is one of my favourites and luckily Benefit sell minis which means I can get eye opening lashes from the comfort of my tent. Add a dash of colour and opt for the new Blue Version for a splash of interest.
For another eye brightening trick I’m bringing along a creamy coloured eyeshadow. MAC’s Brule eyeshadow is the perfect choice for evening out discoloured eyelids and looking more bright eyed, even after 5 hours of sleep.
For a little eye definition and a sexy smudge of colour along the lash line I’m using my HD Brow Kajal in brown to add a little undone smoulder to my festi-chic makeup look. Run around the lash line and smudge out.
Becca have created these gorgeous waterproof, long-lasting lip and cheek Beach Tints that pack a fruity punch of pigment. I love this pinky coral tone named GRAPEFRUIT. Bonus points that it’s sweat and rain proof so you can keep glowing and glowing despite teh weather
I don’t think powder has a place in a festival makeup bag – any one who looks to powered down and matte at a festival is clearly not having enough fun in my eyes. I would, however, be lost without a bronzer. I’m packing my Rodial contouring/bronzer/powder to create a sun kissed glow. Extra points for the big mirror in the lid!
A festival essentials kit wouldn’t be complete unless I listed out all those slightly less glamorous yet can’t live without basics.
Femfresh Wipes – because err staying fanny-fresh in a field is like totes important and FemFresh intimate wipes have had a funky festival makeup over
La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray – chill out and cool down with this antioxidant infused water spray. Come 12 noon in the raging sun you’ll be everyone’s best friend.
Plasters & Paracetamol- because we all get boo boos and hangovers
Ur Cheeky Clean & Gleam Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser – self explanatory
La Roche Posay Anthelios Comfort Protective 50+ – fast drying oil with a high factor of sun protection is essential. Despite the high levels of protection I tan through this. Its’ quick drying with spray applicator making it my #1 choice.
Cherry Chapstick– for kissing all those girls…and because it smells delish and fits in pockets and bumbags and other small places.
Dove Beauty Finish Mineral Deodorant – Makeup for the armpits? whatever, it’s my favourite.
