There was a time (I’ll place this between 2004-2012) when I was rarely without a flick of black ink along my lash line. I blame fashionables like Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and of course the incomparable Amy Winehouse. After Amy none of my makeup looks were complete without a retro liquid flick.
Liquid liner comes in all shapes, formulas and wear. I’ve road tested every type because I was always looking for one that doesn’t smudge a few hours after application and is basically self applying (still searching for that one..).
My Gold, Silver and Bronze winners below are easy to use and have pretty much the perfect formulation.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
This woman can do no wrong in my eyes. Her makeup line is quickly becoming my favourite! One of her cult beauty products is the Tattoo Liner and as the name says this stuff doesn’t budge. It has the easiest sort of brush as well. A very fine tip made up of lots of little brush hairs finishing in the most minute and precise point. The formula is not as free flowing as the two below but I like that because it means the product adheres to the lid better and doesn’t bleed. The finish has a slight vinyl look to it. The colour is use is Trooper.
Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Liner
The pen and point on the Eyeko Black Magic Liner is pretty much identical to the Kat Von Tattoo Liner. The main difference with this one is its a little less budget proof and more inky. Some will prefer this as it allows you to clean up mistakes more easily and go over areas you wont to correct or fill in without flaking. It also has something called Widelash – a tripeptide based blend focused on enhancing lash growth for up to 3x length and volume in 15 days. I’ve never used this liner long enough to see the results but it’s a nice touch I suppose.
Bourjois Liner Feture Slim
My 3rd choice of liner is the most inexpensive one. Bourjois Liner Feture in Ultra Black Noir Black 16 is the best drugstore liner for me. This liner has a sister liner with the same name but I’ve found that the Ultra Black one above doesn’t bleed as much (maybe due to more pigment?).
The ultra slim felt tip is really great for accuracy. Again, a precision applicator is always high up on my list and a felt tip was my preferred liner tip until I discovered the minute sharpened brush style like the Eyeko and Kat von D which don’t dry out as quickly. The staying power on this is pretty good though. My top choice for drugstore.
Whilst we are on teh topic of liquid liner a new little gadget dropping into my life last week.
