As I write this I’m perched in a rather exotic location, peering down into old town Havana, Cuba from my balcony at dawn, jet lag has the better or me…
I wanted to write a little refresher on my current everyday makeup menu as I’ve packed my current loves with me for this trip. I’m continually subbing products in and out of my routine for testing purposes but right now I feel like I’ve struck a satisfying harmony with everything in my makeup bag and haven’t deviated for a couple of weeks now (and that’s along time for me).
Let’s start at the very beginning; By Terry is one of the most luxurious makeup brands I’ve ever tried. The price point is high high high. The Light-Expert Click Brush Foundation (I use 4) is a dreamy; a beautiful light to medium coverage, glow inducing and I do love the click brush application however I use it more to apply but not to buff in as it’s a little stiff. The price point is a staggering £48, but if you’ve got the cash then get this and you’ll fell like you’re painting your face with gold every morning.
Concealer & Colour Corrector
No surprises here, I’ve been a convert to my Bare Minerals Bareskin Serum concealer for about 4 months now. It’s the creamiest, lightest most bendable and hydrating formulation with the highest coverage I’ve found. Every time a friend borrows it they go and buy it. I use it over my colour corrector…
Pixi Peach Colour Correction is my go to for the ridiculously dark eye bags I’ve inherited (thanks dad). This paste like formulation is a peachy hue and comes in a thick paste I dab onto the darkness under the eyes to blot out shadows.
Sensai Bronzing Gel SPF 6 is a recent launch. Although I tend to favour the powder bronzers as they double up as powder for me (Benefit Hoola forevs) I have actually been swayed to this for the last month. This light gel like formula comes in a few shades and I use shade Copper Bronze and adds the most natural, deep flush of colour and glow to the skin. It looks incredible on its own for an “I’ve just spent two weeks in St Tropez”, glow. You can contour with it too and it has a brush designed to buff in product that I really recommend for a flawless blend. It has SPF 6 which is low but still a bonus, I guess.
Nars Dual Intensity blusher in Sexual Content has been a favourite all summer and I’m not ready to give it up. It comes with two shades in the pan, a dusky rose hue and a peach / coral tone. Both have a glow infused into them, not glittery or shimmering just GLOWING. I run my brush through both colours and apply to the apples of my cheeks.
My go to everyday eye shadow is currently Burberry’s Silk single shadow in Almond, as recommended by one of my fav beauty bloggers Tamira Jarrel. It’s a beautiful shade, a neutral cool brown that enhances my blues eyes for a little more intensity. Top points for slick packaging too.
I could never write a makeup menu with a single lip colour, this is the piece of makeup that rotates daily. I’m favoring MAC’s new lipintensty is Smoked Almond; a warm-ish nude-y brown colour and then MAC’s Syrup which is lustre version of mauve-y pink Mehr by MAC. For something a little more interesting I have been using Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in Backtalk non-stop. The mauve hue is so on trend yet interesting, the formula is creamy but still matte and velvety. Everyone asks where it’s from.
I don’t have much experience with Rodial cosmetics but I think it’s a brand to watch as their newer launches seem to be getting better and better. This XXL Lip Liner in Pink Espresso is a lovely natural pink lip hue that I outline the boarders of my lips with before lipstick. Sometimes I just fill in the entire lips with it because it’s so nice. The formula is creamy, matte and pigmented and glides effortlessly. No dragging.
I am using a new Chanel mascara that is part of the new autumn Le Rogue No.1 collection. This is a deep intense brown and I’m favouring browns, as they are softer on the eyes. This has a bristle brush but I think I prefer Chanel le volume mascara with comb brush.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy, Benefit Gimme Brow in Dark adds volume and darkens my brows whilst shaping, perfect for a little everyday enhancement without fuss.
PUR Cosmetics I one of my secret favourite brands and I want to talk about them more! A few months ago I was sent this Sunkissed Glow Strobe Palette to try. It’s now my favourite highlight because I love the colour choices (a champagne, a pink and a more bronzy hue) and they go on so easily with my favourite blending tool, the Real Techniques Diamonds Facet Blending Sponge. Pur are changing all their packaging so I’m hoping more people take note of this great brand!
