STYLE LOBSTER STAYS AT THE PIG, BROCKENHURST

Photo 05-07-2015 14 32 05Sorry if you get total mushy vibes from this post but I just celebrated 5 years with my guy and did it in the most dreamy location, last weekend. We unplugged our phones and peeled ourselves away from our desks to enjoy celebrating 5 whole years together as a couple. 5 years is a long time, we could have reproduced like 6 times in that space of time! What is The Pig

You might have heard on the grapevine about a awesome hotel establishment that city-folk just loooove escaping to when city life is getting too much and there is a special occasion to celebrate or maybe just fancy some R&R in beautiful surroundings.

The Pig is perfect. We journeyed to the original hotel in Brockenhurst, which is right in the middle of the New Forest. As we crunched our way up the gravel driveway I enthusiastically read aloud the New Forest’s history from wikipedia (I don’t get away much).

The Pig is a 29-roomed country house ensconced in vines and with two friendly looking, stone great danes sat outside. There is a large swing hanging from a massive tree and a putting green. Yipeee.

The Vibe

I feel like the clientele are a well-to-do bunch and everyone looked very at home in the plush and slightly eccentric surroundings of the house. Or maybe it’s because The Pig is elegant but homely at the same time?

We have a guided room by room tour by a friendly girl dressed in a uniform of pink Jack Wills shirt, skinny jeans, blue converse and a neckerchief. Yes, they are all wearing neckerchiefs. Country pile chill vibes to the max…Photo 05-07-2015 15 33 15pig2Photo 05-07-2015 15 15 36The Rooms

When I say The Pig thinks of everything I mean it. Our room was “the snug” and the only size of room available at the time off booking (the place books out months in advance) but had ample space for our overnight stay. They have a larder in the room (aka country talk for mini bar) and a complimentary Nespresso machine for caffeine addicts. The bed was huge and very comfortable and our view was off the patio and rolling countryside. Room with a view? Check! Rainfall showers? Check!pig5 Photo 05-07-2015 15 23 10 Photo 05-07-2015 15 18 14What to do

The grounds are idillic and most definitely worth a leisurely stroll around. Admittedly, I have never been interested in the outdoors so much, but the hours we spent meandering, hand in hand, through the victorian green house, (home to all the kitchen’s herbs and spices) the walled vegetable gardens, flower beds and lily ponds was bliss.

We rode bikes, played on the putting green and drank Bollinger Champagne at sunset whilst swinging on a gigantic swing. I suddenly felt like I was living my life all wrong and an enthusiastic conversation ensued about upping sticks and moving to a self-sufficient farmhouse with dogs, pigs and chickens.

Before dinner Rich treated me to a 50 minute Indian Head massage which includes head, neck shoulders and arms. There are a variety of Treatments available ranging from full body massage to facials.

My therapist walked me to a potting shed in the middle of a lily pond, I cannot even explain how magical this all was! I selected my massage oil in a blind smelling and enjoyed the next 50 minutes drifting into serenity whilst listening to the gentle lapping of pond waves against the shed.pig6The Food

There is a definite pig theme running though the menu so you’re in luck if you love the pork. To keep us going til dinner we nibbled on piggy bits with Champagne: Crackling and Applesauce and Ham hock scotch eggs.

For dinner I ate Courgette Flowers lightly battered and stuffed with goats cheese and creamy tomato sauce and Rich opted for the Pork Belly. We had triple cooked chips and pork fat potatoes as sides and bottle of the house white which was very good. All the ingredients are sourced within a 25 mile radius as well 🙂 It was all delicious.Photo 06-07-2015 10 23 23Photo 06-07-2015 10 23 11The service for breakfast was very slow but the delicious Eggs Benedict more than made up for this. I was in no rush to leave after all.

The focus for The Pig is very much their locally sourced and well executed cuisine, but for me The Pig was so much more than a restaurant with rooms.

Although my stay was glittered with romance, love and plenty of Bolly I was fully impressed with every aspect of my stay and experience. I leave serene and more in love than I have ever been. Thanks for making our stay a beautiful one I will never forgot.
