Bacteria for Breakfast

Bacteria for Breakfast

Gone are the days when breakfast became a mindless, gut-filling, on-the-go activity. Today I find myself adopting the age-old adage of “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. It is! We should dine like kings and Queens when we have our first meal! But that doesn’t mean a Full English with extra toast and crispy bacon should be on the daily menu. I’m conscious about what I eat first in order to have the best possible start today the day. As I grow older I learn how important a balanced and delicious breakfast starts my day right.

light and free keffir breakfast

A few weeks ago, I went to the very picturesque brunch spot, Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings, for a breakfast session hosted by foodie and health guru Madeline Shaw to find out all about a new Kefir range by Light* & Free that comes in 3 flavours; Plain, Cucumber & Lime and Pomegranate & Blueberry.

Kefir by Light* & Free is a fermented dairy drink that is made with cow’s milk, Kefir grains (containing the necessary Kefir mircroorganisms) and other lactic cultures to deliver Kefir. During the fermentation process the microorganisms eats up the lactose from the milk, to create the texture, taste and fizziness typical of the Kefir. These cultures and microorganisms will remain alive and growing during the shelf life of the product.

The Light* & Free Kefir tastes a little bit like yogurt but has a thinner consistency. You can drink the Light* & Free Kefir as a snack, as part of a balanced breakfast, in porridge or as we ate it today at breakfast; drizzled over a warm baked Shakshuska dish and it was absolutely delicious!

I am really excited to see Light* & Free bring an easily accessible Kefir drink to market that also tastes good and has a good choice of flavours.

The new Kefir comes in 3 flavours (plain/cucumber and lime/ Pomegranate & Blueberry), has no added sugars** like all Light* & Free products, has live cultures like all other Kefirs and is available at Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Would you try Light* and Free’s Kefir?
