I have been feeling a little under the weather recently – too many late nights, long days at work ending in large glasses of wine.
I decided to give myself a little health kick and hopefully boost my immune system enough to shake this pesky cold I have and ward off any other viruses floating around.
I am not a massive fan of fruit, much preferring to get my vitamins from vegetables, however I am not blind to the fact many fruits are packed full of antioxidants that can kick all those germy free radicals in the ass!
I have put together a quick and blananced smoothie recipe you can blitz together with minimal effort if, like me, you need a healthy boost.
Handful of Red Grapes – Full of antioxidants, flavonoids myricetin and quercetin which help the body to counter-act harmful free radical formation
Handful of Blueberries – a well known superfood these have the highest content of antioxidants of all fruits
Handful of Spinach – rich in vitamins spinach is also a good source of Niacin and Zinc which help you to absorb all the good nutrients you put in your body. And trust me you cant even taste it in the smoothie!
Heaped tablespoon of Pomegranate Seeds – Studies suggest pomegranate juice is anti-inflammatory. It also helps cleanse the circulatory system, increase oxygen flow to the heart and lower blood pressure. Research also suggests that drinking fresh pomegranate juice can also inhibit viral infections like colds.
1 peeled Tangerine – A rich source of vitamin C
Juice of a whole Lime plus 1/2 the rind – a rich source of vitamin C the lime also helps boost the digestive system
Coconut Milk – Rich in Vitamins A, E & C and also lauric acid which has germ-fighting, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties that are very effective at ridding the body of viruses, bacteria and countless illnesses
Chuck it all in the blender pour on the coconut milk and whizz for 1-2 mins. If you prefer it ice cold add in a few ice cubes.
Voilà! Feeling healthier already 😉
