I’m not the red roses box of chocolates kinda girl and definitely never EVER come near me or my home with a teddy bear clutching a love heart. I’m the type of girl that appreciates a takeaway curry and a good shag on v-day. Most of the red shiny commercial stuff can go fug itself in the bargain bin, where it belongs.
Saying that, a tasteful diamond, a well mixed cocktail or some very luxurious lingerie would never be turned away. I am a woman after all.
Here are my top picks of gift for V-day for the girl who doesn’t want any commercial crap and feels slightly nauseous at the idea of a romantic dinner for two on the 14th.
Scent between the sheets
When I was brainstorming this post I was determined to include an aphrodisiac fragrance. I am a massive lover of scent and always reach for a perfume according to what I’m doing and how I am feeling. A fragrance to entice or seduce is always a good thing. To feel desirable and desired is one of the BEST feelings so I threw it out on twitter and 4160Tuesdays tweeted me recommending their Pillow Talk fragrance.
2 days later it was here and it was time to test. It’s worth noting this isn’t eau de Viagra so don’t expect orgasms after the first squirt (lolz). Escentual describes the fragrance like an “intimate embrace”, it has a lot of musk and seductive jasmine as well as ylang ylang. It was originally designed to be sprayed onto pillows before lovemaking. I was expecting this scent to work at a deeper level.
I spritzed my pillows about 10 minutes before my lover arrived. I wasn’t sure what to expect, he certainly didn’t walk into the room and rip my clothes off but we did get down to the deed fairly quickly after his arrival.
It smells lovely and I thought it was quite a sexy gift idea for a loved one to wear on their skin or between the sheets. The choice is theirs.
Top Notes: Yuzu, Orange Blossom
Heart Notes: Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood
Base Notes: Vanilla, Musk, Black Pepper
Silk and string
Lingerie has always been my thing and my lovers too. A good set beneath my clothes makes me feel empowered and confident and when I’m wearing underwear that makes me feel sexy the foreplay starts in the restaurant or bar.
I’ve been a fan of Fleur of England for almost 7 years now. The underwear is beyond breath taking. The designs are modern but are always mindful of a woman’s shape and never overtly sexy or crude. The materials are of the highest quality. Nothing kills romance like a sweaty and itchy piece of polyester between your crotch. Am I right?
The Boudoir Bra and Ouvert Brief set ticks all the boxes for me.
Intimacy and inebriation
Alcohol has long played a factor in seducing the opposite sex and inebriation of the classiest kind can be found in a cocktail. Forget bubbly champagne when the word cocktail itself is pretty tongue and cheek. Wiki describes the origins of the word cocktail below…
Cock-tail is a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters—it is vulgarly called bittered sling, and is supposed to be an excellent electioneering potion, in as much as it renders the heart stout and bold, at the same time that it fuddles the head. It is said, also to be of great use to a democratic candidate: because a person, having swallowed a glass of it, is ready to swallow any thing else.
Seduce and befuddle your lover with a tricksy little concoction of liquor this v-day but always makes sure it’s quality stuff! My top pick is a vodka based cocktail which is clean and easy to be creative with. Zubrowka Bison green grass vodka has long been a favourite of mine. The golden rye vodka is infused with long stems of aromatic bison grass from Poland that gives the vodka a warming vanilla and almond taste. It’s delicious on the rocks or mixed with apple juice. My favourite the Zubrowka Thyme recipe is listed below.
ZUBROWKA THYME RECIPE
15ml thyme syrup
15ml lemon juice
Combine all ingredients together into an ice filled tumbler and stir.
A fresh sprig of thyme and a lemon wedge

I wanted to introduce you to my, or should I say, our little friend. It wasn’t until I was past 25 that I became interested in sex toys. I think it’s because I never really understood them. But the sex toy market is evolving so rapidly and only getting more understanding of the female body and orgasm that I now find my R-rated treasure chest growing at an alarming rate.
I was on the hunt for a toy that I could recommend in this V-day blog post and that toy, I did find. Ann Summers has conceived FUSION – The Couples Vibe that is designed to be worn together so you can come together.
How to use
This cute little purple gadget is to be worn during sex; that’s foreplay, oral AND intercourse. It’s basically hands free stimulation with 7 tasty vibration settings all controlled by a little remote which either of you can use. I personally like to keep control of the remote because my partner is not a mind reader unfortunately. LOL.
It slips in and the rabbit ears sit on the clitoris and the other side sits on the G Spot. YUP, mind blowing vibrations coming at you from all angles. From the guys’ side I’m told the vibrations feel really good and don’t interfere with penetration. It gets a big “thumbs up” from both my lover and me. But I’m pretty sure it was better for me 😉
It’s all wireless, thank the lord and USB chargeable – a must because triple AAA days are over.
I’m so excited about my new gadget that at a dinner party and a few bottles of wine I dug it out and was passing around the table actively encouraging all my friends to invest. There is currently 10% off this toy on the Ann Summers website too.
For a more civilised and high brow gift idea how about the first book from Emily Witt, a 30 something female journalist exploring modern day love and sex in the age of the internet. Future Sex is a personal study of her experience with dating, love, sexpectations in today’s world.
She covers everything from orgasm workshops to desert porn shoots to hooking up for casual sex using dating apps. She explores the old idea of “free – love”, conceived in the 20th century and how we have ended up living in a weird macabre version of sexual freedom thanks to the Internet.
No matter what path your own love and sex experiences have been in life I think Emily touches on feelings and moments that we can all relate to. It’s interesting, though provoking, if not a little frustrating that we are still no closer to the ideals of true “free – love” and that our genetic and conventional wiring may never let us have this.
If you don’t plan on getting more spenny than a card this year then I recommend veering well away from the local Tesco’s and selecting something with a little more thoughtfulness. I find that humour works wonders in diverting attention away from the need to express ones serious amorous feelings. That’s why I’ll be giving these two cards away this year.
Cardology creates very intricate three-dimensional pop up cards with elaborate paper sculptures inspired by Kirigami, the Japanese art of folding paper. They have over 100 designs with everything from same sex couple cards; lovers kissing and also a very nice selection of Anti-Valentines day cards like the “Nice Cock” exhibit A above. Brilliant!
