STYLE LOBSTER DINES AT HEDDON STREET KITCHEN

IMG_6326What’s better on a Thursday night in London when you got that weekend feeling but still another day of work ahead? An indulgent drowning in cocktails followed by just enough tasty grub to soak up the alcohol and keep you fresh for the weekend, of course!

I did just this at Gordon Ramsey’s new venture, Heddon Street Kitchen, just off Regent Street. Ramsey is like marmite to most, but I’m a fan and at 19 was sort of obsessed with him and started doing the rounds at his London restaurants, when the purse permitted me to.

IMG_6323First impression is of a low lit warehouse style venue with leather booths hugging tables close. There is a good buzz about the place which excites me and gets me in the mood.IMG_6327

IMG_6794 IMG_6793We ate lots of different tasters from the menu and for me it was the meat dishes that really excelled. Rich and moreish, doused in tasty sauces and seasoning, the fat and skins were crispy and divine. These truly indulgent dishes like Tamarind spiced chicken wings with spring onions and coriander was my fav of the night. The delicious Herdwick lamb cutlets made the vegetarian and fish options, like Spiced plaice, piperade, chorizo, cauliflower purée pale in comparison – which was over spiced to make up for the lack of interesting flavour.

heddon street kitchenI had food poisoning from oysters last summer but this didn’t stop me from munching down plenty of the Fried rock oysters with fennel and lemon confit salad, which I thought was delicious.

IMG_6791The menu caters to a worldly palette with everything from mac ‘n’ cheese, which was slightly too bland until I poured over the salty Chicken Jus that came with my lamb cutlets to California maki rolls and an English starter of Potted salt beef brisket, grain mustard and piccalilli.

IMG_6328The cocktails were elaborate and yummy, my favourite being Lady Regent – Hendricks gin, Ruinquinquin peach, elderflower, lemon and mint, because I love gin and elderflower together. The dessert were well done; the Chocolat fondant and Pineapple carpaccio with passionfruit was memorable.

IMG_6795The overall impression left me with a place that served great cocktails and meat dishes, I know my boyfriend would love this place and it would also be excellent to return with my gf’s on another Thursday night.
