I’ve been intrigued to try colour blocking for a while but it can be a risky business. Not only can it be difficult to find an entire three-piece outfit in the exact same shade but also you run the risk of just looking a bit mad. Head-to-toe in tomato red? Daring, bold…crazy. A full mustard yellow look and your part of the 70’s upholstery darling. But colour blocking, when done well, gives the wearer the ultimate pulled together look. It lets you appreciate the cuts of the clothes as they flow together in uninterrupted colouration.
When Jaeger asked me to partner with them and style a look to celebrate the opening of their new Marylebone boutique I immediately wanted to try colour blocking. With the whole store was at my disposal Jaeger is a brand that makes boutique outfit shopping pleasurably easy.
Now I think about it, it’s hard to say whether I prefer navy or black. I love and live in both colours; both forgive a multitude of sins and always, ALWAYS look chic. Saying that navy tends to teeter more on the sophisticated side of the spectrum where as I like to fall back on a classic, all black look when I’m searching for sex appeal.
I’ve pulled together this navy look and I started with this coat. The subtle primary blue pinstripes on this navy coat are so cool. LOVE LOVE LOVE. The shape is a long line classic cut and it feels super smart. Every time I’ve won it people compliment it.
Underneath I have the most incredible trousers; 100% wool knit, cropped-leg with stretch. They sort of tumble over the legs, skimming past the saddlebags creating a nonchalant boyish silhouette. The navy roll neck is a classic autumn staple that keeps to neck warm so no need to wear a scarf.
I have accessioned with a fold over pony hair, cross-body bag, in the only animal print I like to wear – LEOPARD! (See another one of my leopard looks here). A Tortoiseshell and gold cuff adorns my wrist. This is the perfect run around town look, especially when paired with crisp white Stan Smith (detailing on these is of course navy!) A slash of red matte lipstick and I’m ready to take the town!
