Underwear, what does it mean to YOU? What does it DO for you? If you love exploring fashion and style as much as I do then there’s a good chance you’ve considered the make up of your underwear drawer, thought about what bra and pants works well with a certain outfit or picked out a special set when you need that extra boost of confidence for a tough day ahead.
Burlesque dancer Dita von Tease famously said, “Its not about seducing men, it’s about embracing womanhood”. Lingerie was originally designed to support the architecture of the female form. Even though I am not full chested myself I do feel more comfortable and supported with a bra on and underwear that feels as good as it looks. That will never change.
Make it match
A matching set of underwear can harnesses more power than you think. Like having made the bed in the morning or washed up my coffee cup before leaving the house, when my bra matches my underwear I really feel like I have my life together.
For me myself and I
I do not dress for men, first and foremost I dress for myself and secondly for other women. The same theory could be said for picking out my underwear. My girlfriends appreciate a pretty set of lingerie just as much as men do, but their appreciation is different. They aren’t excited by the idea of lingerie because it means they are one layer away from stark naked nudity. Women appreciate the way good lingerie compliments the figure, enhances your best assets and of course the design. The girls appreciate every last detail.
It was this idea that inspired this shoot. I wanted to show how pretty lingerie needn’t be hidden beneath clothing but styled in as part of an outfit. I wanted the shots to look pretty, soft and whimsical, any sexiness would come through after a second or third glance, not be the main takeaway.
Everything in this shoot is from Primark. The new lingerie collections are breathtakingly gorgeous. The designs rival those of high-end lingerie houses. My favourite pieces I selected to style in these shoots were the triangle bras with their pretty applique designs and trendy mesh inserts and the lacy bodysuits, that are more full coverage but still sensual.
In February we are still very much laying the foundations of the year ahead. So when you are thinking about shopping for a new wardrobe essentials remember to take a step back and start with the base layer because I think it’s what is underneath your outfit that really inspires girl to feel confident in her clothes.
