I’m about to make a serious case for the leather jacket after recently investing in a new one that gives me butterflies every time I caress it’s soft, soft buttery leather.
We are in that weird trans-seasonal part of the year when the weather cannot make up it’s mind. Going out without a jacket is a no no but wearing a coat seems a little overcautious. My Agnes leather biker jacket from Whistles is the glue binding all my spring outfits together right now, not to mention keeping me warm whilst the weather decides what the hell it’s doing.
A Leather Jacket…
…will never date
Leather jackets come in many shapes and sizes but the most classic style is the trusty biker jacket style. I’ve only purchased 3 leather jackets in my lifetime and they were all the classic biker shape. This Whistles number is my latest purchase and I chose it because it felt timeless with a minimal, clean cut yet still embodied the well-loved biker shape with traditional details; lapels, zippered pockets and sleeves. Coat shapes come and go but leather jacket are here to stay. You will not regret the investment.
…is the perfect transitional piece
With summer on the horizon but not quite here to stay yet, the leather jacket is the most trustworthy jacket to reach for in spring time when you need to keep warm but it’s not quite long coat weather anymore. It’s also perfect in autumn when a chill starts to creep back into the air.
…adds the cool-girl edge to any outfit
A Leather Jacket has been associated with off-duty model style and rock and roll royalty and for decades. Also it goes with black skinnies like no other jacket ever will. I recently had a denim de-clutter and the only pair of skinnies I kept were my black Paige cropped ones. They are timeless much like the leather jacket. When I’m stuck for an everyday look I default back to a black skinny jean, cute tee and leather jacket combo more than any other.
…is the perfect jacket for a night-time look
Do you ever put together the most amazingly glamorous evening look for a party or night out with the girls the realise you don’t own a coat that works with the look?! ME, ALWAYS. A leather jacket will save you. I still go through the “try on every coat in my cupboard” dance but always end up leaving with the leather jacket.
…feels so good to wear
Owning and wearing a leather jacket has the ultimate feel good factor. I’ve asked many of my close friends what their most prized clothing possession is and most will say the trusty leather. It’s probably because it wasn’t cheap (a good one never is), it also feels buttery soft and luxurious and I immediately feel self-assured after putting it on.
I styled my jacket with this cute spring co-ord by & Other Stories and my Radley Hardwick Zip Top Grab Bag and Ray Ban Revival Meteor glasses. Oh and topknot for once!
Looking for more of a summer investment? Save your pennies and grab an oversized denim jacket in a deep solid black. When the weather gets too warm for a leather jacket I continually reach for my Topshop Motto Black oversized denim jacket here.
