90’S MIGHT JUST HAVE TO BE MY FAVOURITE ERA. Mostly because I can say I loved it AND lived it (albeit I was a child). But I was there damnit and it’s still so vivid in my tiny child mind! For some reason 1997 sticks out the most; Tony Bair coming to power, Princess Diana’s fatal car crash and Spice Girls the MOVIE!! Hells yes.
And then there was the fashion. If I’m honest it’s nothing to write home about. The 90’s was all about grungy basics and was the first era where men and women’s fashion melted into a big genderless mash of comfort and sexiness through sexlessness… Baggy jeans, baggy jumpers, baggy tees. everyone was chillin’ whether it was sportswear or denim dungarees. OMG did I just write a rap? Anywayz…
The 2nd time round the 90’s style revival excites me a little more not just because I’m allowed to dress myself now but because like every trend revival you can take the best bits with you.
This look is my current everyday sort of look with a 90’s twist. You’ll notice the choker immediately. It’s leopard print, probably my favourite print! I’m wearing it just above my polo neck, which is underneath a big, nondescript grey jumper. This one might even be fruit of the loom, you know, (so 90’s). I stole it off someone at uni and it’s been with me ever since, tee hee.
Hoops adorn my ears because I am obsessed with hoops right now. They are the perfect mix of trash and prettiness. I’m wearing a backpack because backpacks are cool and handy at the same time and I’m down with that. All accessories are from the new season edit from Accessorize.
Straight leg denim
These are my favourite shape of jean because they are true straight legs on me. I have quite muscly, shapely legs, which means often high street “straight leg” jeans just look like skinnies on me. Super annoying. These are from M.i.h Jeans and are my most expensive pair of jeans I own. They are my fav though! Actually gobsmacked they aren’t stained AF yet.
These boots are giving me life RN and keeping me mobile through sprained footgate (nye injury, don’t ask). These are probably the most 90’s thing about my look. I particularly remember begging my mum for a pair of these as my winter school shoes at the age of 11. OH HOW SHE LAUGHED. I got them eventually but All Saints had broken up and kitten heels were all the rage by then. Ew kitten heelzzzz.
Did you grow up in the 90’s or were you a fully-fledged teen gone grunge? I’d love to hear all your 90’s memories below! Reminisce with meee!
