Over the last few season sportswear has evolved, shedding it’s rude-boy, chav-esque status and morphing into something chic and directional.
A new term which, I first heard from the geniuses at the Man Repeller was “Elevated Sportswear”, the idea of taking elements of sportswear (simple cuts, performance fabrics, dare I say it, comfort) and morphing our causal wear into something fresh and unfussy and clean.
Zara (that high street retailer where most of my monthly expenditures take place (bastards)) obviously just launched an Elevated Sportswear category for TRF AW14. I wanted to put together an edit to show how an everyday t-shirt and jeans look can be subbed for a sporty look instead.
ES needs an edge of “Luxe” so I love this simple navy jacket in an imitation silk fabric, lined with grey marl hoody and silver hardware.
Keep the luxury going with a cashmere knit turtle or funnel neck jumper. Fine knits work best to keep it trackstar chic rather than rustic. Pair with tailored joggers and Stan Smiths. Zara have designed these dupes as seen above.
Socks are a statement so choose an expensive looking pair and show them off. Go for a bright colour if you are feeling bold. Falke do some great colours.
There are some very chic and sporty backpack’s out there right now and i love this cycling bag with a smooth navy leather.
Keep your hair and makeup simple. Fresh faced skin with a little cheek and lip tint will give you a flushed outdoorsy glow, try Benetint. Embolden the brows with Nars’ brow gel and add a spritz of the classic Burberry Brit.
