Lily Allen may never release another pop album but her G.A.F style attitude reigns on as she was the first icon of my generation successfully rocking the dresses and trainer combination.
I’ve always shied away from overly feminine dressing preferring to opt for sexy rather than girly but as you know if you read my Unfeminine Floral Dresses post I do favour tea dress, especially in the warmer months. My shoe choice with this type of feminine tailoring is always a pair of trainers. Here’s why…
1. They are dead comfy and there’s no denying that with a pair of trainers on your feet and floaty little dress on your back makes you feel like you can conquer whatever summer throws at you, whilst looking totally cute at the same time.
2. When was the last time you saw a chick who’s style you look up to wearing Ballet Pumps? Trust me, I understand the appeal (I clung on to my French Sole ones for years hoping they’d make a come back) but I’m so glad they died. Without sounding like a geriatric right now, how unsupportive and uncomfortable were they on the feet?! Just me? Right now mules are my fashion shoe darling, but for an everyday, chilled and practical look trainers win. Always.
3. Sport-inspired fashion is so now. The trainer is absolutely everywhere and you cannot scroll through Insta without seeing the latest athletic shoe drop from Nike, Gucci, Balenciaga… What a trainer does for a look is give any outfit an injection of effortlessness and nonchalance without deducting any style points.
This look is the perfect balance between smart, chic and effortless. I saw this Whistles Star Print dress on Next’s Label.com site and immediately feel for it. I love how the star “pop arty” print feel so much cooler than a predictable floral print. With all Whistles dresses the cut is excellent and it hugs the shoulders and waistline just right. The pleating adds a sophisticated edge to this fun dress. On my feet are white, minimally designed trainers by Next.
